Want a fast, practical way to build shop-ready manual milling skills? AWT’s Intro to Milling packs six focused evening classes into a schedule that works for busy adults. Over 6 weeks, you’ll learn how mills remove material, how to set up workholding, select cutting tools, and dial in feeds and speeds. Class is held in Mentor, OH, at AWT’s Transformation Training Center. Tuition is $1,100. 

What You Will Learn

  • Manual milling machine fundamentals (axes, tram, zeroing, safety)
  • Workholding: vises, parallels, clamps, edge-finding, squaring stock
  • Basic tool geometry applications and functions
  • Basic milling, drilling, facing, and squaring operations
  • Tooling basics: HSS vs. carbide end mills, tool life, coolant basics
  • Feeds, speeds, and chip load for manual operations
  • Surface finish and tolerance awareness

Who Should Enroll

  • New hires and entry-level operators
  • Maintenance techs cross-training into machining
  • Anyone moving from assembly/inspection into manual machining

  • 6 sessions, 3 hours each (evenings; Wednesday series)
