SMI 2018 Preparations Under Way

AWT , Senator Sherrod Brown,  OMJ Geauga, and Auburn Career Center are pleased to announce the return of the Sumer Manufacturing Institute!

Curriculum

This year’s curriculum will focus on regional specialties:  Aerospace Engineering and Medical Manufacturing.  With these themes in 2016,  campers were able to build and test Mars Rovers, get visits from NASA, and build a prosthetic hand.    Details to be announced, but as before, the camp will include

  1. One major hands-on project and several smaller ones as well that the campers will keep
  2. Field Trips
  3. Special Guest Speakers.

Counselors

This year, SMI will be seeking Education majors.  Counselors will be paid in 2018. Details and job descriptions to come.

Timing

The first week will be Girls’ Week:  June 11 through 15.  The camp runs 9 am to 3 pm, but concludes early on Friday.

Week Two is co-ed and will run June 18th through 22nd -same times.

Registration

Registration should be open by January 1st – please join our SMI News list for email updates!

Scholarships

A variety of scholarships are available. Some are based on where the camper lives, and some are need-based.  While the camp is very reasonably priced at $150 for the week, please let us know if that might be a difficulty.

Sponsorships and Donations

Busing, snacks, t-shirts, and counselors – and scholarships – they all add up! If your company is able to help, a  range of sponsorships are available too!  Your donation may be tax deductible.  Let us know if you want to be recognized or not.
