Summer STE[A]M Camps

Some of you asked me about other camps besides SMI  where kids get to build things, or learn STEM skills –   they are starting an SMI in Cuyahoga County soon!

Here’s our list of STEM camps in the area.

  • ID Tech: Engineering, robotics, coding ect:  ages 6 & up – only available at CWRU, but there’s an online version that’s about $29/month.
  • Lakeland Summer Camps (STEM) – see pages 4 & 5 for Techie & Science camps. Some still available I think.
  • STEM at Sylvan in Mentor: – not “maker,” but robotics, lego/knex, Coding – still available in Mentor for late July 2017!
  • Camp Invention at Willoughby School of Innovation – first week of June (and it sells out/fills up)
  • LEAF – the Lake-Geauga Educational Assistance Foundation – is going to be moving from Auburn’s campus to Lakeland’s campus by next summer and its camps seem to be done for the year, but keep your eye on them!  They have great programs!
  • Classroom Antics: nearest locations are Kirtland and Chagrin Falls;  Topics include [Jr.] Lego Robotics, Video Game Design, Minecraft, etc.
  • City of Mentor camps (available for non residents) : Bricks4Kids (a lego camp) at Wildwood Cultural center (ages 6-13, waitlist)  and the X-Treme Science Challenge Camp –  (waitlist, ages 8-12)
  • We Can {Code} IT Kids’ Computer Summer Camps; Shaker Heights,
Computer Camps designed for children ages 8-14. Topics include Minecraft and programming. (844) 932-2626
  • MadScience – Stow, Aurora, Twinsburg  -RubeGoldberg Machines
  • Michaels – crafts for kids ages 3 and up. Basic, but cheap.
  • Pat Catans – a little more sophisticated – this year is crafts with themes of different nations.

Good sources are Today’s Family, Northeast Ohio Parent, and Northeast Ohio Family Fun – free magazines you can usually pick up at the Y or in doctor’s offices.

Libraries are not on this list because you already know they’re awesome.

If you know about any other maker/stem programs we should add, let us know!
